Vinyl flooring: four benefits and how to choose
30 March 2026

Planning a renovation and choosing between wood, tiles and laminate? Vinyl flooring is another option, offering many designs and a practical surface for everyday use.
1. Water resistance
Vinyl is popular in kitchens and other rooms exposed to spills. Check the specific product instructions for bathroom use and sealing requirements. Waterproof panels do not replace structural waterproofing.
2. Comfort underfoot
The panel construction and underlay determine how the floor feels when you walk on it. Rigid SPC differs from flexible vinyl. If you have underfloor heating, choose a compatible product and follow its requirements.
3. The appearance of wood or stone
The available designs make it easier to match the floor to your furniture and interior style. Vinyl does not need sanding, but it does need regular cleaning with products suited to its surface.
4. Durability in everyday use
Choose a wear layer and use class suited to the expected traffic. Entrance mats, felt furniture pads and removing grit help protect the floor, including in homes with pets.
A consistent look throughout your home
Using the same design in the living room, hallway and kitchen can visually connect the space. However, thresholds, profiles and expansion joints depend on the room layout and the manufacturer’s instructions.
